Why Attend
Britain is in the midst of a productivity crisis. Analysis shows that output levels have barely risen since the last recession, and there is a long standing and now growing productivity gap between the UK and the likes of France and Germany. The Productivity Summit presents cross-industry case studies from UK businesses implementing productivity models and strategies, covering three main areas – systems and modelling, employee engagement and health and wellbeing. Living up to its name, The Productivity Summit offers an interactive and energetic programme intent on getting the most out of one day.
Case studies from the UK’s leading brands include:
- How to measure productivity
- How to actually implement flexible working and mental health programmes to drive productivity
- What a good productivity model looks like
- How to manage change internally
- Practical steps to improve diversity and resulting impace on business productivity
- How to improve non-financial compensation and benefits to compete for talent
- How to prepare for Brexit and the impact it's going to have on productivity
- Using internal champions to build productivity into company culture
"I am currently exploring a number of ways to introduce further flexibility within our workplace...The Productivity Summit agenda is perfect for my areas of interest!" Andy Stoker, Director - Organisational Culture & Transformation, Cisco

Talk to me about… your business
I'm the EMEA Vice President of Twitter. I joined the company in 2012 just as we opened a London office having previously run YouTube UK at Google. I've also worked at Emap/Bauer and Capital Radio.
I've also been a digital advisor to Comic Relief. For the last couple of years I've hosted and run the Apple #1 Business Chart topping podcast Eat Sleep Work Repeat (on work culture). I was fascinated that the way most of us work is against all of the advice of scientists and psychologists. There was lots of interest in my work and in January 2019 Penguin Books published Bruce's first book, The Joy of Work.

I've got obsessive interest in current pop music. Nothing makes me happier than a new Max Martin or Julia Michaels penned anthem.

The John Lewis Partnership was founded as a vision of an industrial democracy where employees (Partners) share profit, knowledge and power. Given the economic, technological and societal pressures on the retail sector, to be able to sustain this vision into the future will require a deeper and broader focus on productivity, harnessing the ability of Partners to achieve better outcomes in terms of sales and profits per Partner than we have ever achieved before. As a senior leader in the Partnership, with responsibility for the profitability of Waitrose operations, this is a challenge I consider every day.

I am at my happiest when outdoors and preferably up a mountain. I put it down to being born in the Lake District! I enjoy running, swimming and cycling through the year and usually manage to go snowboarding a couple of times a year in the winter.

I head up the People & Capability team at Perpetual Guardian and my role is to develop innovative and inclusive people strategies in all aspects that relate to our recruitment programme, organisational culture, employee relations and talent management. Innovation, fiduciary expertise and a rich history go hand in hand at Perpetual Guardian. For over 135 years we’ve been providing New Zealanders with estate plans and providing certainty for their legacies – with Wills, Trusts, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Investment Advisory or Philanthropic ventures. Our 4 Day Working Week is an example of our wish to push the boundaries, and is challenging how we work. We believe that shifting the focus away from “hours of work” to a focus on increasing productivity and employee engagement has real merit in adapting to a changing world.

I am married to Liverpool-supporting Simon and have three adult step-children. We love our NZ lifestyle of beaches, bush walks and close to ski mountains, but also enjoy travelling overseas as much as we can – as you may imagine, any travel from New Zealand requires many hours in a plane and extreme jetlag!

Talk to me about… your business
I’m a Chartered Occupational Psychologist. I have my own business and provide consultancy to a range of organisations, but I feel very fortunate to have had a long-term partnership working with Atkins. I have always been interested in how organisations can create cultures which work with human nature rather than against it, whether that’s to improve safety, wellbeing, inclusivity or productivity. I hold academic positions alongside my consultancy, as I believe that staying in touch with the rigor of my profession is important to the quality of what I bring to clients.

I started my working life as a computer programmer for John Lewis – I failed the aptitude test, but they liked me in interview, so I got the role (but I think the aptitude test was right!). Feeling in the ‘wrong job’, although I loved the organization, led me to leaving after three years to pursue my career in Psychology.
